ANIMUS
Metal, wood, pu-schaum, plaster, glass, lenses, charcoal, fauxfur, ramshorn, goatjaws, feathers, plaster, tubes, acrylicpaint, laquerpaint, spraypaint.
A glass container filled with water, a subdued yet potent metaphor, sits at the center of the composition, Held securely within the sculpture’s construction, the water symbolizes the inner pain that men frequently hide. The work’s incorporated lenses allude to the warped perspectives that men have of their inner conflicts, which distort their feelings and sense of self.
“Animus” investigates the vulnerability that is frequently concealed by the male archetype while also examining the outward manifestations of power. The sculpture asks the observer to consider how men bear their responsibilities and struggle with their humanity while seated on the thrones that they are frequently supposed to occupy.
